Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Detroit Pistons
Derrick Rose put together a solid season for Detroit last year and played in 50 games for them, but after drafting Killian Hayes 7th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft to be the point guard of the future, the Detroit Pistons may be very willing to trade Rose and get something for him since he is not in their long-term plans moving forward.
This season, with the team looking to get Hayes as much experience at point guard as possible, Rose does not have that big of a role. The Pistons could really utilize a player like Gary Harris at the shooting guard position and reuniting him with Jerami Grant may not be a bad idea either.
These two had a lot of success playing alongside each other in Denver and are both solid two-way players. With their abilities to play off one another and already having a repertoire with each other could definitely positively impact Detroit.
Harris is a proven double-digit scorer on the wing and bringing in a career 35.6% three-point percentage to the Pistons could help them greatly, as they currently rank 20th in the league in three-point shooting. Harris is also only 26-years old and like Grant, can be a part of the Pistons long-term rebuild plans.
In this trade to acquire Gary Harris, the Pistons could possibly talk Denver into giving them a second-round pick as well. Detroit needs draft assets and in any trade for Rose, they would probably like to receive at least one draft pick in return, even though receiving Gary Harris is really good as well.
While he showed promise early on in his career, Gary Harris is nothing more than a role player, which is fine for Detroit given that Blake Griffin and Jerami Grant are the two offensive leaders of this team. Harris would fit in nicely on the wing with the Detroit Pistons and help aid them in their efforts to put together a young, sustainable core for the future.
