Although they are championship contenders already with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving leading the way, losing Spencer Dinwiddie definitely has its negative effect on this Brooklyn Nets team. Dinwiddie suffered a partially torn ACL early on this NBA season and as a result, underwent surgery that will keep him sidelined indefinitely and likely for the year.
Last season, Dinwiddie was instrumental to Brooklyn’s success, especially with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving both out due to injuries. He had arguably the best season of his career last year, as he averaged 20.6 points, 6.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and shot 41.5% from the floor and 30.8% from three-point range.
His abilities to be a floor general and be a fantastic complimentary player to both Kyrie and Durant will definitely be missed and as a result, other guys like Caris LeVert, Joe Harris and Landry Shamet will have to step into bigger roles.
While Brooklyn is already $23.3M over the tax threshold and paying a lot for their championship contending roster this year, they could hypothetically bring in a high-level talent for their backcourt. Losing Dinwiddie definitely takes its toll on the Brooklyn backcourt and as a result, they could look to target a veteran talent like Lou Williams
Not only could he provide a spark off the bench for them, as he has won the Sixth-Man of the Year award three times in his career, but Williams is one of the best bench players in NBA history. He could be exactly the player Brooklyn needs to trade for to win their first championship in franchise history.
Let’s take a closer look at a trade that sends Lou Williams to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for a young frontcourt player and some draft picks.
