Patty Mills – San Antonio Spurs

Patty Mills has been with the San Antonio Spurs organization since 2011 and has always been one of their consistent role players off the bench. His veteran leadership and scoring ability is something that is often overlooked and something that the Dallas Mavericks could utilize in their efforts to make a deep playoff push this year.

Last season with the Spurs, Mills averaged 11.6 points, 1.8 assists, and shot 43.1% from the floor and 38.2% from three-point range. While he does not bring much to the table on the defensive end of the court, Mills has steadily been a productive offensive weapon over the years and has put together some solid years these last few seasons as he is now 32 years old.

His ability to still contribute at a high level and be an excellent bench option on a championship level team is what makes him a valuable player and a guy the Mavericks should absolutely target in trade talks with the Spurs.

The Mavericks do currently have Jalen Brunson and Trey Burke as two reliable guards on their roster, but with Luka Doncic’s ability to move around position-wise, they should have no problem fitting Mills into the equation, possibly even in a two-guard lineup.

So far this season, Patty Mills is shooting over 50% from three, and while his numbers will even out, he is a career 39.1% three-point shooter. He has proven for years that he is a perimeter-oriented threat and he could definitely help improve the Mavericks’ all-around shooting numbers.

For years now, Mills has been a guy that everyone in the Spurs organization absolutely loves and respects a lot, which is why he could fit in well with the Mavs. They need a leader outside of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis in the locker room, which is why trading for Mills makes even more sense.

The Dallas Mavericks need scoring talent and shooters to bring in the game off the bench, especially since their only real three-point threat is Tim Hardaway Jr, which is why Mills could end up being the high-impact bench player they need to make a run in the playoffs.
