The Lakers improved in the offseason when they added Dennis Schroder at the point guard position and Montrezl Harrell down low. They extended James and Anthony Davis early, then Kyle Kuzma right before the season.
It is clear that the Lakers want to keep their core together to continue to compete for championships. That does not mean that they have to become complacent when it comes to improvement.
The Hornets are one of the teams with great depth on the perimeter. They used the third pick in the draft on LaMelo Ball to team up with Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham. This trade does not have to involve any of those three, but the Hornets have other options on the outside to trade away if they get the right return.
