This Timberwolves-Warriors trade sends an intriguing young talent to Golden State

Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Golden State Warriors

As mentioned before, James Wiseman is the future at the center position for the Warriors, which is why they need to do everything they can to get him minutes and experience this season. Kevon Looney has been the “glue guy” for years for Golden State and has helped them immensely in their title runs, but he only brings so much to the table.

He cannot really score and has declined as a rebounder over the years as well. There is nothing that really sticks out about Looney’s game with this newly formed Warriors’ roster and as a result, they could definitely look to trade him for another young player to build with for years to come.

After trading away Andre Iguodala to free up cap space, the Warriors were left with a hole on the wing and while Wiggins is going to attempt to try and fill the void, he may not be able to do it on his own, especially with Thompson out. Jarrett Culver can not only play immediately, but he is an extremely gifted athlete that could help the Warriors in more ways than one.

Not only could he be a threat to push the pace in transition with other athletic players like Wiggins, Ourbre Jr. and Wiseman, but he has a lot of potential to grow into a solid defensive player as well. His 6’9” wingspan allows him to deflect a lot of passes and given his upbringings through Texas Tech, a very defensive-minded program, he has the foundation for being a two-way player already built.

Both Damion Lee and Kevon Looney are two guys the Warriors absolutely love and they have been tremendous contributors over the years, but this organization really is not in any position to reflect on the past right now and they need to do what is best for them to keep the dynasty alive and continue competing for championships.

Culver gives them this opportunity not only now, but for many years to come as he could develop into a very solid two-way player. Giving up a first-round pick and two role players may seem like a lot to give up, but young assets like Culver do not hit the trade market very often and this could be a great opportunity for the Warriors as he is basically like getting an established first-round pick.
