The Oklahoma City Thunder have made a clear effort to hoard as many first-round picks as possible. It’s also apparent they are looking to get as good of a position in the 2021 NBA Draft as possible. After this upcoming draft, could they make a splash for a talent like Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves?
There is reason for optimism surrounding the Timberwolves after landing Anthony Edwards with the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He has displayed intriguing potential so far and could be a helpful contributor alongside Towns long-term.
However, there’s more to consider. By the time the 2020-21 NBA season ends, the Timberwolves very well could face a situation where they’ve failed to make the playoffs yet again.
At some point, it’s quite reasonable to expect Karl-Anthony Towns to want to give a change of scenery a try. The Timberwolves tried and failed trading for Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins didn’t quite work out, and the D’Angelo Russell is looking like a lateral move. Now, their hope lies in the hands of Edwards.
With that being said, let’s take a look at an out-of-the-box trade idea featuring Karl-Anthony Towns that would take place next NBA offseason.
