Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Aaron Gordon
Orlando Magic Receive: F James Johnson, G Tyrell Terry & a 2025 lottery-protected 1st Round
Given Aaron Gordon’s $18.1M cap hit via trade, the Mavericks would have to send either James Johnson, Dwight Powell or Max Kleber to the Magic to make this trade work, but given that they have big plans for both Kleber and Powell, James Johnson is the odd man out in this trade.
Trading away their recent 31st overall pick, Tyrell Terry, may not be ideal either, but acquiring a guy like Aaron Gordon puts them in legit title contention this season.
In order for this trade to work, the Dallas Mavericks could probably get away with offering a protected first-round pick down the road, but it would not come as a surprise if the Orlando Magic wanted another first-round pick within the next year or two.
Getting rid of Aaron Gordon would definitely put a hold on their chances to grow moving forward, which is why they may have a slightly higher asking price for the 25-year old forward.
Aaron Gordon’s name has popped up in trade talks all offseason long and with his production taking a dive over the last few seasons, it would not come as a shock if the Magic decided to flip their roster slightly and take Gordon out of the equation for years to come.
The Orlando Magic need to continue to build a young core and ultimately, it does not seem like Aaron Gordon is a part of this core moving forward.
