The Chicago Bulls have been rebuilding since their 1998 NBA Championship in which Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, and Phil Jackson all left the Bulls after winning. Since their last championship, the Bulls have gone through 10 different head coaches and have not had recent playoff success. In fact, the Bulls are a team who have only made the playoffs once in the last five seasons— losing in the first round in 2017. 

The Bulls have switched up their front office and have brought in Billy Donovan to be the next head coach of the organization and as a result, could result in Zach LaVine being on the move in the near future. LaVine’s name has been brought up a lot in NBA trade rumors and a lot of it is because of the lack of success Chicago has had over the years. 

The 25-year old guard is playing at the highest level of his NBA career now and if Chicago cannot turn things around quickly, he may want out and to be traded to a team that is invested in wanting to win now. 

When looking at the Bulls’ roster, it is not bad overall, with Coby White, Lauri Markkanen, Wendell Carter Jr., and rookie Patrick Williams as young players with a lot of talent, but due to the lack of coaching success and poor management over the years, the development on some of these guys has been non-existent. 

Moving forward, especially with Billy Donovan, this team has the capability to be special, but it will take a few more years before they reach their full potential. If Chicago really wanted to, they could speed up their rebuild process by a whole year or two by trading away LaVine for young talent and draft picks. 

Whether or not the Bulls decide to trade Zach LaVine remains a big question and storyline that will be brought up throughout the 2020-21 NBA season, but in the event that Chicago does look to move LaVine, here are 3 trades they should consider involving their star guard.
