Why The Trade Benefits The Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors lost some key pieces of their team in free agency. Both Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol left for other teams in the NBA offseason. Toronto did accomplish their main goal which was to re-sign Fred VanVleet. Now, it is time to build around him.

Kyle Lowry is Mr. Toronto but his days are numbered. VanVleet is the next franchise player for the Raptors. Siakam has been important to the franchise but if they can land a return like this, they should pull the trigger. Collins would immediately replace Siakam down low.

Kevin Huerter is a threat from three-point range and three first-round picks is a lot to turn down, especially if Atlanta does not make the postseason. It might be hard to part ways with Siakam but it could be worth it in the long run.

Toronto won a championship when they traded for Kawhi Leonard. Their window might be open but it is closing quickly with other teams improving in the Eastern Conference. It will be interesting to see how Masai Ujiri continues to structure his team.
