Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Utah Jazz
As stated before, Donovan Mitchell is an NBA superstar already and Rudy Gobert is a Defensive Player of the Year candidate year-in and year-out. However, these two guys are not enough to potentially bring a championship to Utah. Acquiring Kevin Love and Collin Sexton though would definitely make the Jazz a formidable team in the Western Conference.
Collin Sexton is almost 22-years old and with him already playing at a high-level for the Cleveland Cavaliers, just imagine what he could do with Donovan Mitchell by his side. These two guards would create a very explosive backcourt in Utah and a backcourt duo that would make the Jazz a better transition team.
While Kevin Love’s shooting abilities are definitely something that will fit right in with the Jazz’s gameplans, his rebounding efforts could also make a major difference with this organization. While Rudy Gobert is one of the league’s better overall rebounders, the Jazz only finished 13th in the league in rebounding a year ago.
With the addition of Kevin Love, the Utah Jazz would definitely increase in terms of total rebounds per game and they would actually have a true power-forward, as Bogdanovic mainly plays on the wing and not the low-post. Utah’s frontcourt has been a mess for years now as they have not had depth behind Rudy Gobert, but the addition of Kevin Love finally fixes this problem.
With Mitchell playing at the level he is and with one of the better overall shooting teams in the league, this could be Utah’s best chance to win a title in a loaded Western Conference, which is why they need to be willing to sacrifice the draft capital to acquire Love and Sexton. They could end up being the difference in Utah making a deep playoff run this year and potentially shocking everyone and winning a title.
