This Sixers-Timberwolves trade features Ben Simmons and D’Angelo Russell

Why The Trade Benefits The Philadelphia 76ers

Both Daryl Morey and Doc Rivers have said that they do not want to trade either Ben Simmons or Joel Embiid. They have been together for quite some time and believe the duo can win an NBA title. That has not been the case yet so at what point does the franchise decide to go in a different direction?

If Minnesota offers a package like this, it would be interesting to see what the 76ers would have to say. The biggest return in this deal would be D’Angelo Russell— providing some legitimate reason for intrigue from Philadelphia’s perspective.

Russell has been an NBA All-Star caliber player on other teams and could be the Sixers’ biggest perimeter threat. He is a far better shooter than Ben Simmons and could handle the ball within the offense. Russell is more of a two-guard but could play point if needed.

Jarrett Culver and Josh Okogie would jump right into the rotation for the 76ers following the trade. Also, there would be a ton of NBA Draft capital coming to Philly in this deal. This is how they built their team up to this point and it could continue, or the picks could be used in another deal.

The idea of trading Simmons might not sound like an attractive one, especially in a league that is dominated by point guards. But if it is time, then it is time. One thing that is certain is that the 76ers could flip Simmons for a huge package if they felt the need.
