This Nets-Pistons trade would send Derrick Rose to Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Nets will be championship contenders all season long because Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are finally back and healthy. With these two perennial NBA All-Stars leading the charge and the depth this Nets team has, very few teams in the league will be able to match-up with them.

Entering the season, everything looked great for the Nets, but they now face their first roadblock of the season as Spencer Dinwiddie suffered a knee injury on Dec. 27th that turned out to be a partially torn ACL. He will now miss the remainder of the 2020-21 NBA season, which puts Brooklyn in an awkward spot.

Their plan this year was to have Dinwiddie start next to Kyrie Irving all season long and have Caris LeVert and his firepower coming off the bench, but now LeVert will likely be a starter from here on out and other guys like Landry Shamet, Joe Harris and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot will have to step up and perform at a higher level.

Losing Dinwiddie for the season hurts Brooklyn a lot because he was one of their best players last season with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant out. In 64 games last season, Spencer Dinwiddie had a career year, averaging 20.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and shooting 41.5% from the floor. His production in the first and second units will be hard to replicate, which is why the Nets could be in the market for a “one-year loan” type of player.

With almost no depth behind Kyrie Irving now at point guard, Brooklyn could definitely target a veteran guard who has one year left on his contract. Finding a high-level veteran guard may be easier than many think as Derrick Rose is a name that is available for the right price.

Rose has revitalized his career the last two seasons with Minnesota and Detroit and could fit in nicely in the second-unit in Brooklyn. Derrick Rose has always been a guy who adapts to his teammates around him and is an overall great playmaker and facilitator. This is exactly the type of guy Brooklyn needs to replace Dinwiddie this season as they look to win their first title in franchise history.

Let’s take a look at how the Brooklyn Nets could possibly land Derrick Rose in a trade with the Detroit Pistons.
