This Clippers-Pelicans trade lands Lonzo Ball back in L.A.

After losing in the Western Conference Semifinals last season and losing reigning Sixth-Man of the Year, Montrezl Harrell, to the Los Angeles Lakers via free agency, there are a lot of question marks revolving around the potential success of the Clippers this season. Paul George and Kawhi Leonard have looked strong early on for Los Angeles, but does this team have enough all-around talent in order to finally make their first Western Conference Finals and NBA Finals appearance?

One thing that could really hurt the Los Angeles Clippers this season is that they do not have a pure point guard and floor general. Patrick Beverley is more of a defensive threat than anything else and Lou Williams is a score-first type of guard.

Both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are the team’s two main ball-handlers, which could hurt this team down the road in the playoffs when they are playing the best teams in the Western Conference. When you look at past championship teams, they have always had fantastic guards and floor generals.

This is something the Clippers do not have, which is why they could be looking to make a trade for a legit point guard. Given their financial restraints, Los Angeles would have a hard time targeting an NBA All-Star point guard, but acquiring a player like Lonzo Ball from New Orleans is extremely do-able.

Lonzo Ball has been a reliable, “do-it-all” type of point guard during his first three seasons in the league and coming back to Los Angeles, except this time to the Clippers, could be very beneficial to his career moving forward. Here is a trade that would send Lonzo Ball to the Clippers for a veteran guard and some young players.
