Why This Trade Makes Sense For The 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers have made the playoffs the last three seasons, losing in the Conference Semifinals twice, and will once again be one of the top playoff teams in the Eastern Conference. This offseason, they were extremely busy and did everything they could to surround Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid with talent.

Danny Green and Seth Currywere the two key free agents Philly signed this offseason, finally giving them shooting from the wing they so desperately needed. This team is still in the market though to continue adding depth at every position and looking to add championship caliber players.

This offseason, there have been a lot of rumors about James Harden potentially being traded to the 76ers, but nothing major has developed at this time and there is no impending trade. With Simmons’ name already being brought up in trade talks for James Harden, it is not crazy to think about the idea that Philly could trade Simmons at any point for the right price.

Adding John Collins and Cam Reddish is not a bad idea at all for the 76ers given their lack of depth in the front court and on the wing. Given that Ben Simmons plays point guard for Philadelphia, Tobias Harris mainly plays power-forward, giving the 76ers a lack of size in the frontcourt with Embiid being the only true big man down-low.

Adding John Collins changes the whole dynamic of the 76ers approach on offense and gives them one of the better frontcourts in the entire league. Outside of Simmons and Embiid last season, the Sixers did not have many avid rebounders, leading to them being a middle-of-the-pack rebounding team in the NBA.

This team needs to play to their strengths in order to win a title and their strength is their big man underneath. Joel Embiid is probably the most dynamic and best center in the entire league and by bringing in another high-level big man like John Collins, the 76ers would dominate most of the league in the paint.

Not to mention, Cam Reddish being added to the wing with Tobias Harris, Danny Green and Seth Curry makes for a very solid perimeter shooting group. Ben Simmons is a great player, but he is not the key for the Philadelphia 76ers winning a championship. By building depth in the frontcourt and giving Joel Embiid a “partner-in-crime” at the power-forward position, Philly could make their first NBA Finals appearance since 2001.
