4 burning questions for Houston Rockets entering 2020-21 NBA season

The Houston Rockets had one of the wildest offseasons out of any team in the NBA and it started after they decided to move on from head coach Mike D’Antoni and GM Daryl Morey. With the Rockets moving on from both their head coach and GM, things began to escalate about a potential rebuild being eminent in Houston and as a result, created a lot of uncertainty about the future of this organization

After trading Robert Covington to the Portland Trail Blazers to acquire some draft assets, Russell Westbrook and James Harden both requested a trade and do not have any intentions of being a part of a rebuild. Shortly after, the Rockets traded Russell Westbrook to the Washington Wizards in exchange for a future first-round pick and former All-Star point guard, John Wall.

The 30-year-old point guard has not played in an NBA game since December 26, 2018 and has suffered some major injuries over the years. He not only comes back ready to play with a chip on his shoulder, but will have one of the most dangerous scoring options in the league in James Harden to rely on IF he stays.

This is a major “if” for the Houston Rockets because James Harden has made it very clear that he no longer has a desire to play in Houston, regardless of who they bring in via trade or sign. This all came after the Rockets signed DeMarcus Cousins and traded for John Wall.

The Rockets’ championship window has closed and while they have tried to convince Harden to stay, he has remained adamant in wanting to be on the first flight out of Houston and this organization needs to move him sooner than later. By keeping him against his will, it sends a very negative message to the rest of the NBA that this organization does not respect their star players and will wind up pushing future All-Star caliber players away from signing with them.

This season will be very interesting for the Houston Rockets and here are 4 burning questions for them entering the 2020-21 NBA season.
