The Indiana Pacers opened up their 2020-21 NBA season on Wednesday night against the New York Knicks. Tons of questions were surrounding the Pacers entering this matchup, including what Victor Oladipo would be able to provide. Well, the franchise had to be happy with what they saw.

After coming back in rough fashion last year following a gruesome ruptured quad, Oladipo put on a show in his first game of the season. He powered the Pacers’ offense at times and showed a lot more athleticism and flash than he did last year.

When everything was said and done, Oladipo scored 22 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists, and a steal. He shot 9-for-14 from the floor overall and knocked down two of his five three-point attempts. Those numbers were exactly what the Pacers needed to see.

All offseason long, trade rumors surrounding Oladipo and many thought he would be on the move. Instead, Kevin Pritchard chose to keep him around. The Pacers wanted to see what their current roster looked like together.

New head coach Nate Bjorkgren seems to have a good relationship with the former All-Star guard already. His offense seems to fit Oladipo well.

Oladipo is currently in the final year of his contract with the Pacers. The two sides have discussed an extension in the past, but no one knows if they will come together on a new deal. If Oladipo continues looking like this, he would be worth max money for Indiana.

Only time will tell whether Victor Oladipo and the Pacers will stick together long-term. But, for now, Oladipo has shown what he needed to. He is back and will be a serious threat for Indiana once again this season.

It’s only the first game of the season, but the Pacers have to be feeling good. Oladipo looked healthy and rejuvenated, Domantas Sabonis was dominant, and the roster looked like they felt comfortable together in a new system.

Victor Oladipo may not end up being an All-Star this season, but it’s good to see him back and the NBA is better for it.
