PJ Tucker, Houston Rockets
In a complete disaster of an offseason, the Rockets fired their head coach and GM, creating a lot of tension between their two former MVPs and the Rockets organization. As a result, Russell Westbrook was traded to the Washington Wizards and soon, James Harden will be on the move to a new organization.
This leaves P.J. Tucker on the Rockets roster that will be in no shape to contend for a championship, leading to him ultimately requesting a trade. Although he is 35-years old, there is quite a large market for a player like Tucker given his defensive tenacity and corner shooting.
At this point, the Rockets need to realize that they have no shot at keeping this team as a playoff contender and as a result, need to do everything they can to gain assets now to build for the future. Tucker is turning 36-years old this season and with him in the back-half of his career, they might as well try and get a first-round pick for him seeing as they no longer have any chance to win a title.
Last season, P.J. Tucker averaged 6.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.1 steals and shot 41.5% from the floor, 35.8% from three-point range. While his stats will not blow you away and seem to be very unimpressive, a lot of what Tucker does on the court does not show up on any stat sheets.
His competitiveness and defensive tenacity makes him one of the better defensive players in the NBA and his versatility allows him to guard any position on the court. Not to mention, P.J. Tucker is one of the better three-point shooters from the corner in the NBA.
Any championship contender looking for a veteran player who will provide a spark defensively should be targeting P.J. Tucker as he is more than capable of being a key role player off-the-bench for a championship-contending team.
