4 teams who should try to trade for Pelicans’ JJ Redick

From the very first time he stepped on the court in the NBA, everybody knew JJ Redick was going to be one of the best three-point shooters in league history. At 36 years old now, the former Duke Blue Devil will be playing his 17th season in the NBA and will once again look to be a focal point for the New Orleans Pelicans as they hunt for their first playoff berth since 2018.

While he had bounced around the league quite a bit and has played both in the starting lineup and off the bench during his career, Redick’s role has remained the same over almost two decades now and that is being a three-point threat whenever he has the ball in his hands. Since the 2014-15 season, Redick has ranked in the Top-15 every season in three-pointers made and has solidified himself as one of the All-Time greats from beyond the arc.

Last season, Redick moved into 14th on the NBA’s All-Time Three-Pointers Made List and this season, he could move up inside the Top-10 of the list, passing the likes of Joe Johnson, Dirk Nowitzki, and Jason Kidd. Who knows how much time JJ Redick has left in the NBA, but the last few seasons have been the best of his career and as long as he can shoot the basketball, he will have a job for some team in the league.

With the Pelicans during the 2019-20 season, Redick played in 60 games and averaged 15.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, and shot 45.3% from the floor and 45.3% from three-point range. Although the numbers are identical and it looks like all he does is shoot threes, only about 63% of his total shots last season were from deep.

No matter what team he is on, Redick is a proven scorer and can make an impact with literally any team in the league, playoff contender or not. He led the Pelicans in three-point shooting a season ago and was one of the main reasons they finished as a Top-10 three-point shooting team during the regular season.

While the Pelicans will be contending for a playoff spot in the Western Conference this year, there are a handful of teams around the league that could be looking to add three-point shooting depth, which makes Redick a hot name on the trade market.

If the Pelicans are willing to listen to offers for their veteran sharpshooter, here are four teams who should try to pursue a trade for JJ Redick.
