The Golden State Warriors Are In Trouble

Not having Klay Thompson in the lineup for the whole 2020-21 NBA season is a major blow to the Golden State Warriors. However, there are issues with the team’s roster construction that were put on full display during their loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

Having two primary wing options like Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr. is simply not going to cut it for the Warriors. Neither player is a clean fit for Golden State’s style of play as they are used to being inefficient shot chuckers on losing teams. Both players combined for just 19 points on 7-of-30 FG (23.3%), 2-of-12 3P (16.7%), 3-of-4 FT (75%), 3 assists, and 7 turnovers.

Not having Draymond Green’s presence on the floor to make a needed defensive impact was too much for the Warriors to overcome. His playmaking ability to tie the offense together was sorely missed. However, getting him back won’t be enough to elevate the unit as a whole.

There isn’t nearly enough depth on the Warriors’ bench either. The Nets displayed highly intriguing personnel combinations throughout the matchup and completely outclassed Golden State.

Not even having one of the lights out shooting displays that Stephen Curry is more than capable of putting together would have helped in this game. That goes to show just how far the Warriors are from contention.
