Why LeBron James could win the 2020-21 NBA MVP Award

LeBron James has participated in 9 of the last 10 NBA Finals matchups and has won 4 titles over that span. Last season, James won his fourth NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers and was a dominant force all season long.

It’s clear that LeBron looked like a man on a mission over the course of the 2019-20 season and averaged 25.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 10.2 assists and shot 49.3% from the floor. While last season was tied for his second lowest scoring output in a season over the course of his 17-year career, LeBron James continued to dominate in other aspects of the game and all the Lakers’ success was in large part because of him.

Fellow All-Star Anthony Davis definitely played just as big of a role in the Lakers’ championship run a season ago, but everything on this team revolves around LeBron James and it will again this season as the Lakers look to win back-to-back titles.

In 17 years of playing professionally in the NBA, LeBron James has only won 4 MVP awards and could become the oldest player to win the award this season. James has talked about his personal success over the years but has made it clear that he does not care about personal accolades and only wants to win championships with his team.

While he may say this, it definitely has to eat at LeBron that he is not voted league MVP year after year given his accomplishments. He is consistently one of the best players in the NBA every season, but has not won the league MVP award since the 2012-13 season when he was with the Miami Heat.

Could this year be the year LeBron James wins his 5th MVP award? Here is why LeBron could win the 2020-21 NBA MVP award.
