What Is Kristaps Porzingis’ Injury Situation?

After averaging 20.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and shooting 42.7% from the floor in his first season back after injuring his knee in 2018, Kristaps Porzingis was forced to miss the remainder of the Mavericks’ playoff series against the Clippers after tearing his right meniscus.

Now, Porzingis will miss the beginning of the 2020-21 NBA season, which will have a big-time, negative effect on this team that needs him out on the court to succeed.

As it stands right now, the last update that was relayed by the Mavericks organization is that Porzingis’ rehab is ahead of schedule and he is beginning to participate in five-on-zero work in practice. Dallas also relayed that he will travel with the team on their opening road trip of the season and will likely begin practicing with some limitations.

No timetable for his return has been laid out just yet, but it seems like Porzingis will likely miss the first two to three weeks of the season and could be ready to go as soon as January 4th when the Mavericks visit their rivals, the Houston Rockets.

The 25-year old has dealt with a bunch of knee injuries over the years and is one of the pieces to the Mavericks’ championship puzzle moving forward. Dallas needs him out on the court with Luka Doncic in order to be successful in the Western Conference and if they struggle early on without him on the court, it could wind up hurting their chances of being a legit playoff team in the West.
