Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

For fans of the young Slovenian talent, it should not come as a surprise to see Luka Doncic as one of the favorites to win the 2020-21 NBA MVP award. Not only has he been playing professional basketball since he was 16-years old, but he quickly became one of the best players in all of Europe in just a few seasons, much like he did in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks.

In 2018 with Real Madrid, Luka Doncic not only guided them to a EuroLeague Finals victory but was named EuroLeague Final Four MVP and the 2018 EuroLeague MVP, becoming the youngest player ever to win the award.

At the NBA level, Doncic was named the 2018-19 Rookie of the Year and looks to be a once and a generational type talent that could dominate in the NBA for the next two decades.

In just his second season playing for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA last year, Luka Doncic averaged 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 8.8 assists and shot 46.3% from the floor and 31.6% from three-point range.

While his shooting numbers from deep were below average, Doncic turned it on in the playoffs, where he averaged 31.0 points and shot 36.4% from three-point range against the Clippers, giving them everything he had in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Doncic’s goal with the Dallas Mavericks is to win a championship over the next few years and with him playing at the level that he is, it is definitely not out of question for him to lead them there.

If Porzingis had never gone down with a knee injury and if Doncic was not dealing with an ankle issue, then the Mavericks could have taken down the Clippers in the first round of the playoffs and who knows how far of a run they could have made.

Not only does he have the skills and the makings of a league MVP, but he has a chance to go down as not just one of the best international players to ever play in the NBA, but one of the best players in NBA history.

Luka Doncic has only been in the league for two years now and is already being called a top-five player. With him playing at this kind of level and with him still improving and growing each year, the sky’s the limit for what he can achieve in his career.
