Why the Trade Benefits the Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz just gave Donovan Mitchell a boatload of money for the future. While it’s expected they will get a long-term deal with Rudy Gobert done before the Dec. 21 deadline, this trade would be an out if they didn’t want to do that.
In return, the Jazz would get Theis to put in the frontcourt. Langford is the most intriguing piece in this deal because of his high ceiling. Danny Ainge is a believer in Romeo Langford down the road but knows his value in a trade.
The Celtics are a win-now team which means trade in Langford will get them the right return. Utah is in a position to build around Mitchell and this trade would add more pieces for the upcoming years to develop.
Utah took the Denver Nuggets to seven games in the first round of the NBA postseason. That is a series that could have gone either way and proved that they are turning into one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
