There is no doubt that point guard is the biggest need right now for the New York Knicks. They are an imperfect team all over the floor and have been unable to nail down a solid point guard for many NBA seasons now. The Knicks might have to explore a trade to acquire a guard that they feel good about and the Cleveland Cavaliers may have an answer.

The Knicks have some young players that they feel good about moving forward. They used the eighth pick in the draft on Obi Toppin to team up with RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson. Leon Rose has taken over in the front office while Tom Thibodeau is the new head coach on the sideline.

If nothing else, New York should have a new sense of urgency and energy on the floor this season. Ultimately, nothing happens in the NBA nowadays without a steady point guard.

This is where the Cleveland Cavaliers might come in to play. The Cavs are in a rebuilding phase that has been evident since LeBron James went to Los Angeles. Cleveland is another team with some young players that they feel good about.

Collin Sexton and Darius Garland are two names in the backcourt to keep an eye on. Cleveland added Isaac Okoro in the 2020 NBA Draft but it’s possible he could end up being best slotting in at the shooting guard spot. Both teams have young assets and draft capital coming up.
