Los Angeles Lakers Will Not Win Back-To-Back Championships
The Los Angeles Lakers have the best roster on paper in the NBA and are coming off a championship last season, so why won’t they win the 2021 NBA Finals? Well, the Lakers may not even make it to the NBA Finals this season despite having Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
The Western Conference as a whole has improved a lot and teams like the Clippers, Nuggets, Warriors, Mavericks, Trail Blazers, and Suns are all teams who can match up well with the Lakers and could potentially give them a run for their money in the Western Conference Playoffs. It seems unlikely that any team could possibly beat the Lakers in a seven-game series, but anything is possible this season and if there are still no fans in the stands come playoff time, it could be the difference-maker for some teams.
If the Lakers do make it out of the Western Conference after battling the best the West has to offer, they could wind up facing the Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics or Philadelphia 76ers, all of which have the scoring abilities and personnel to defeat the defending champions. Out of all three of those teams, the Brooklyn Nets would be the best chance to beat the Lakers in The Finals.
Since 2000, there have only been four teams that have gone on to win back-to-back championships. In today’s NBA, a league that is way more competitive than it once was and where every single team has All-Star level talent, it is much harder to win a championship, let alone back-to-back titles.
This is the sole reason the Lakers will not win back-to-back titles as they will run out of gas at some point in the playoffs. Regardless of how they perform in the playoffs though, the Lakers should be one of the top teams in the NBA during the regular season and the team with the target on their backs.
