5 NBA players best positioned to become first-time All-Stars in 2020-21

While there will be no 2020-21 NBA All-Star game due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on the NBA schedule, the NBA will still name All-Stars around mid-season as being an All-Star has big impacts on these player’s careers and contracts. Not only do players receive bonuses for being named an All-Star, but can also be given larger contracts for being one of the top players in the league.

Between regular contracts, max-contracts and super-max contracts, being named an NBA All-Star and/or being named to an All-NBA team has its financial benefits and this season is no different. Plenty of players earned themselves big time contract extensions this offseason not just for playing well last season, but for being a first-time NBA All-Star.

Bam Adebayo, Jayson Tatum, Donovan Mitchell and Brandon Ingram all signed max-contract extensions this offseason and all were first-time All-Stars last season. In addition to these four young stars of the game, Trae Young, Pascal Siakam, Domantas Sabonis, Luka Doncic, Rudy Gobert and Devin Booker were all named NBA All-Stars, giving them their first ever All-Star selection.

Out of 25 total NBA All-Stars last year, 10 of them were first-time All-Star selections, proving that the NBA has a plethora of young talent that is here to stay for a long-time. While we might not see 10 first-time selections this year, there are a couple of up and coming young stars in the NBA who might be All-Stars for the 2020-21 NBA season.
