Where Does DeAndre Jordan Fit Into The Conversation?
Last offseason, the Brooklyn Nets signed former All-Star center DeAndre Jordan to a four-year, about $40M contract. Last season, Jordan played in 56 games, averaging 8.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and shot 66.6% from the floor. He did all of this in about 22 minutes per game and came off the bench in all but 6 games last season.
The Nets invested a fair amount of money in Jordan and this season, with a healthy Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, DeAndre Jordan could move into a bigger role. Jarrett Allen is still the Nets starting center, but plays a completely different style than Jordan. Allen is more of a shot-blocker and low-post threat whereas Jordan does most of his work on the glass and running in transition for a lob.
Coming off the bench, DeAndre Jordan will fit right in with this team, especially with Kyrie and KD being able to lob the ball up to him. With the Clippers, DeAndre Jordan was known for his flashy dunks and ability to run in transition. While age and injuries have slowed him down slightly, Jordan is still more than capable of playing on the rim and that is where he will make an impact with the Nets.
Due to the fact that Jordan is not a good jump shooter, not much attention will be placed on him when he is one the court as teams will have to try and deal with KD, Kyrie, LeVert, Dinwiddie and Harris. With DeAndre Jordan looming in the paint, expect to see the Nets throw a bunch of lob passes up to him when he is on the court this season. Also expect to see Jordan be one of the team’s top rebounders on both ends of the court.
