Why the Trade Benefits the Chicago Bulls
It’s been rebuilt time for the Chicago Bulls. Zach LaVine and Lauri Markannen are big-name players but the team has been unable to build around them. If they were to trade one, it would go along way in rebuilding the team.
LaVine is the odd man out in this one. That means Lauri Markkanen will remain in the frontcourt. The Bulls also have Coby White at the point guard position to pair with Evan Fournier. Chicago just used the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft on Florida State product Patrick Williams.
They are beginning to build what they hope is a core of the young players for the future. Also, the Bulls would add two first-round picks in this trade. This would help essentially by capitalizing on LaVine’s value now and avoid having to hand out a substantial contract extension after his deal expires.
The Bulls are a franchise with a great history but none as of late. As good as LaVine is, the team has struggled and it could be time to part ways with their star. Having some more long-term rebuilding assets while preserving salary cap health could be the right approach for the future.
