Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Spurs
On the other side of the trade, it is pretty clear why San Antonio would make this trade. Kyle Kuzma would be a big-time addition for the Spurs. He may not end up being a true “star” in the future, but he has that kind of potential.
Currently, the Spurs have LaMarcus Aldridge playing the power forward position. He has been mentioned in a ton of trade rumors as well. Acquiring a piece like Kuzma would give the Spurs the freedom to make a deal involving Aldridge.
Markieff Morris would not be a huge addition for the Spurs either. However, he could provide more depth off of the bench in the front-court.
Gregg Popovich may not be around too much longer as head coach of the Spurs. Many believe that he could be nearing retirement. Kuzma being acquired now would give him a chance to grow and learn from Popovich and be a piece that may be able to help San Antonio get back into playoff contention.
Nether Trey Lyles or Keldon Johnson are untouchable for the Spurs. In the right deal, San Antonio would happily include them. A chance to acquire a talent like Kuzma would be the kind of deal that San Antonio should be looking for and this deal would make a ton of sense for them.
