Why the Trade Benefits the Brooklyn Nets
It has become quite evident that acquiring James Harden is not going to happen for the Brooklyn Nets using a trade package featuring their top complementary options. Getting something done will require the Nets to get creative with gaining attractive assets.
By moving Spencer Dinwiddie to the New York Knicks, the Nets would land their 1st round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft while also bringing in what will probably be a late 1st round selection from the Los Angeles Clippers, too. Both pieces could Brooklyn to field a more attractive trade package for the Rockets.
At the very least, Frank Ntilikina would be able to make a strong defensive impact for the Nets. He could be used in key moments to be a shutdown option against premier lead guards and take pressure off Kyrie Irving from having to handle those sequences.
By taking on two expiring contracts, the Nets would have more flexibility with roster configuration next offseason. After handing out a substantial contract extension to Joe Harris, that additional space could help Brooklyn to optimize the supporting cast around Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
