Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Rockets
Looking at this trade for the Rockets, there is nothing to not like. They would be getting quite a few key pieces in return for James Harden, who obviously does not want to be with the franchise.
Tobias Harris is a quality forward who could team up nicely with John Wall. He averaged 19.6 points per game last season with the 76ers to go along with 6.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists. In addition to those numbers, he shot 47.1 percent from the floor and 36.7 percent from the three-point line.
The most intriguing part of this trade would be the inclusion of Matisse Thybulle. He had a solid rookie season, averaging 4.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. Those numbers may not look great, but his defense was top-notch.
At just 23 years old, the Rockets would be getting a guy who could become one of the NBA’s elite defensive talents. There is always value in a defensive specialist.
In any trade involving Harden, the Rockets need to prioritize stacking up on draft picks. This deal would bring in three first-round picks. Houston would be able to either include those in a trade package for a star or to move up in a future draft, or they could use them an add multiple young players to the roster.
No trade package will be “good enough” for a player like Harden. However, if the Rockets are forced to move him, this could be as good as it gets.
