Luka Doncic Wins 2020-21 NBA MVP Award

The one word that comes to mind when thinking about the Dallas Mavericks over the course of the 2020-21 NBA season is: Exciting. This team is going to be very exciting to watch, mainly because of how good Luka Doncic is and how good he can still be.

Last year, Luka Doncic averaged 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 8.8 assists and shot 46.3% from the floor. This season he will not only come close to averaging a triple-double over the course of the entire season, but he will elevate his play to a whole new level and make the Dallas Mavericks a Top-4 seed in the Western Conference.

If he is able to achieve this feat while putting up similar numbers to the ones he did last season, it will be hard for MVP voters not to put Luka Doncic as the winner. In his second season in the league, Doncic finished 4th in the 2019-20 MVP voting, likely because of how low his team finished in the Western Conference.

Almost every season, the MVP award is given to a player that finishes on one of the best teams in the league, so for Doncic to win the award this year, he will have to get this Mavericks team to 45+ wins over the course of the 2020-21 NBA season. Doncic has always overachieved expectations in his professional career and will do the same this year.

This will be one of what could be many MVP awards for Luka Doncic in his young career and his third season in the league will be his most important by far. The Dallas Mavericks have a shot to be a lot like the Miami Heat last season, catching fire late in the season and making a run all the way to the NBA Finals, but it will all revolve around Luka Doncic’s ability to take his team there.
