NBA GM believes the Celtics could be a James Harden fit

The James Harden situation has become very frustrating for the Houston Rockets. He has failed to report to camp and many believe he is trying to force a trade out of town. So far, the Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Miami Heat have been mentioned as the top trade suitors, but could the Boston Celtics make a play to acquire Harden?

One NBA general manager, who asked to remain anonymous, believes that the Celtics could end up being a serious team to watch in the Harden sweepstakes.

“A team to keep an eye on is Boston, in my opinion. Danny Ainge is always looking to make the big move and it doesn’t get bigger than (James) Harden. They have the pieces to make a move and I think the Celtics are likely to get involved. Pairing Harden with (Jayson) Tatum would be a championship caliber duo.”

Simply thinking about James Harden heading to the Celtics is intriguing. Last season, the Celtics were able to make the Eastern Conference Finals. They ended up losing to the Miami Heat, but they are close.

Adding a talent like Harden would take Boston to the next level. Jayson Tatum is the only piece that would be untouchable. If the Celtics want to get this deal done, a move surrounding guys like Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and even Kemba Walker could make sense.

In addition to current players, the Celtics could add draft picks into a trade. Ainge would likely be willing to move some assets and players to acquire a talent like Harden.

Harden put together another massive season for the Rockets last year. He averaged 34.3 points per game to go along with 7.5 assists and 6.6 rebounds. His shooting percentages were solid at 44.4 percent from the floor and 35.5 percent from the three-point line while shooting 12.4 threes per game.

Only time will tell if the Celtics do end up discussing a Harden trade with the Rockets. It would certainly make sense. More news and rumors will continue coming out about Harden and don’t be shocked if Boston is connected to him.
