Why the Trade Benefits the Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons used the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft on Killian Hayes. He is expected to be named the starting point guard in training camp and entering the regular season. Derrick Rose could stick around and act as a mentor but the Pistons are clearly heading in a different direction.
Both Rose and Griffin could be dealt sooner than later. Detroit rebuilt the frontcourt and added a young point guard who they hope will turn into a franchise player. They will receive a first-round pick in this deal as well. It will be lower in the round but it could be used as a trade piece to either move up in the draft or add another player.
Simply put, it comes down to the fact that Rose is not apart of the future so it would benefit the Pistons to get something back for him.
Detroit has one of the better head coaches in the league in Dwane Casey. If Hayes pans out then they will begin to build something. It is time to get a return on veteran players who are not in the future plans.
