The Detroit Pistons have been a very busy team this offseason, especially when it comes to adding front-court pieces. Derrick Rose is a name that has been mentioned in a ton of trade rumors this offseason, but he is still currently with the Pistons. Could that still change at some point this season?
According to a report from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Pistons are still expected to trade Rose ahead of the NBA trade deadline to acquire an asset.
Rose has revitalized his career over the last couple of years. He has been able to remain relatively healthy, which is where everything starts. Staying with the Pistons to start the season makes sense, but for the entire season does not.
Should the Pistons choose to keep Rose for the entire 2020-21 season, they would lose him for nothing next offseason. Rose only has one year left on his deal.
Last season with the Pistons, Rose continued putting up big numbers. He averaged 18.1 points per game to go along with 5.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds. Rose shot 49 percent from the floor overall, but only knocked down 30.6 percent of his three-point attempts.
At this point in time, there are a handful of teams that would make sense as potential trade destinations for Derrick Rose. Among them are the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and Milwaukee Bucks. Quite a few other teams could come forward with interest if they are a piece away from serious contention.
It will be interesting to see what ends up happening with Rose moving forward. He is 32 years old and is in the final stages of his illustrious career. A move to a championship contender would be ideal for him.
Expect to hear more rumors surrounding the Pistons and Rose moving forward. A deal may not happen soon, but something happening before the deadline seems likely.
