Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Knicks
For the Knicks, there is no reason to not make this trade. Alex Caruso is a quality player and with a bigger role he could unlock even more of his potential. He could become an immediate role player for the Knicks.
Dennis Smith Jr. has a ton of talent, no one will debate that. But, he has not shown that potential for the Knicks. A trade would make sense for both parties involved.
Caruso played 18.4 minutes per game last season with the Lakers. He averaged 5.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Those numbers aren’t great, but they have the potential to improve.
Jared Dudley is simply a throw-in in this trade, although he is a good veteran presence. He doesn’t provide much on the court, but he is a guy who can teach young players. The teams who have signed him have liked that about him.
New York wouldn’t see the needle move either direction with this trade. However, it would give them a change. That is needed with the franchise heading in a new direction.
