Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Trail Blazers
On the other side of the trade, it gets a bit more confusing. Would the Trail Blazers make this move with how close they have been to the NBA Finals? Is trading Damian Lillard even an option, or would they rather shake things up by trading CJ McCollum?
As we have previously mentioned, trading Lillard would be a very unexpected move. However, stranger things have happened throughout the years.
Making this kind of a trade would give the Trail Blazers a ton of options. They would have a plethora of draft picks to use in another trade or to select young players to speed up their “rebuild.” McCollum would still be in town to be the go-to scoring option, which he is more than capable of being.
Tyler Herro showed potential star talent last season as a rookie with the Heat. He took his game to a new level in the playoffs and rose to the occasion every time his team needed him. Throw in two other young talents in Duncan Robinson and Kendrick Nunn and this trade looks even more intriguing.
If the Trail Blazers are convinced that they can’t win a title with their current roster, this trade makes sense. Lillard would net them a ton of talent and future draft picks. That is the kind of package that every team looks for when they trade their franchise star.
Portland may choose to keep Lillard as long as they can. He has been loyal to them over the years. But, if they choose to shake things up, this could be the trade package to target.
