Why the Trade Benefits the Denver Nuggets
It would be a huge blow for the Denver Nuggets to lose Nikola Jokic but in this trade, they are gaining another star and some draft capital. Jokic is a fan favorite so it would cause some ill feelings but the more they think about it, the more it should be accepted.
Kristaps Porzingis is a versatile big just like Jokic. He is not as good a passer but he is an elite shooter from deep and mid-range. Porzingis can defend well and provides real floor spacing impact with his perimeter shooting ability. The major issue is whether he can stay healthy.
Porzingis has struggled with injuries over the course of his NBA career. Denver would also receive two first-round picks in this deal. They could be used as capital moving forward in many ways.
A duo of Jamal Murray and Kristaps Porzingis would keep the nuggets as contenders in the Western Conference. Again, this trade is unlikely and would have some people scratching their heads at first, but there is definitely benefits for both sides.
