Derrick Rose Has Small Price For Big Upside
While there are a lot of question marks surrounding Derrick Rose’s ceiling moving forward, the Los Angeles Clippers would not have to give up much in order to acquire him. They would most likely have to trade Patrick Beverley and a second-round pick to acquire the 32-year-old veteran, which would be a steal given his production over the years.
The once NBA MVP is finally getting back to playing at a high-level and has proven he can still be one of the better offensive weapons on any team. Rose led the Detroit Pistons in scoring last season and was the fourth-leading scorer for the Timberwolves two seasons ago. He has shown no signs of limitations from his injury past and while he may not be the explosive athlete he once was, he has found other ways to showcase his skills.
As mentioned before, Derrick Rose has been great in pick-and-roll situations over the last few years and could not only bring that to the Clippers, but bring his vision and ability to run in transition. The Clippers have not been a great transition team over the years, as they mainly play in the half-court and are patient on offense, but this is a championship changing adjustment that they must make.
Last year, the Lakers were fantastic in transition and capitalizing off of their opponent’s mistakes, which helped elevate them to the NBA Finals and ultimately win the 2020 NBA Championship. While the Clippers would not be as great in this area as the Lakers have been, it is an element of their offense they need to add.
Bringing in Derrick Rose not only solidifies this championship roster, but it gives them a legit scoring point guard, who will make everybody around him better. The upside that Derrick Rose can bring to this team is endless and given his past, Derrick Rose could be even better than he has been over the years. It is a small risk to trade for Rose, but a massive award that could end up in a championship for the Clippers.
