Why the Trade Benefits the Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors re-signed Fred VanVleet to pair with Kyle Lowry in the backcourt. It would be hard to get rid of someone who has meant a lot to the franchise during his time in Toronto. Lowry will go down as one of the best Raptors of all time and was a part of their championship winning team.
At some point, all good things must come to an end. VanVleet is a capable guard who can handle the ball, get to the basket, or shoot from deep. He signed a lucrative deal which means Toronto clearly wants him in a leadership position.
Acquiring LaMarcus Aldridge would make them deeper down low. He is another veteran player with postseason experience who can team up with Siakam to create something special. The shooting ability Aldridge brings to the table would help replace the departure of Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka in that regard.
This is certainly a deal that was sent shockwaves through the NBA, specifically the Raptors. Nonetheless, it would be extremely intriguing to see how this would work out for the Spurs.
