Why the Trade Benefits the San Antonio Spurs

The benefit for the San Antonio Spurs is easy in this one. They would be getting an All-Star caliber point guard with great experience in the postseason. This is something that Greg Popovich would love to have leading his team.

Kyle Lowry would be a great mentor for Dejounte Murray moving forward. He would also have the chance to reunite with DeMar DeRozan if the Spurs do not trade him. Reuniting the backcourt mates from their Toronto Raptors days would give San Antonio two players with great chemistry leading the way.

The defensive capabilities of a backcourt compromised of Lowry and Murray would be impressive. However, the greatest benefit of all would be the added pull-up shooting and general perimeter shooting impact Lowry brings to the table— both of which are substantial needs for the Spurs.

The Spurs are a team with great history and a pedigree of winning. That is something that is not going to change as long as Popovich is around. Adding win-now type players would go a long way for the Spurs in the 2020-21 NBA season.
