Start Your Best Five Players Instead Of Rolling The Dice

No matter what Frank Vogel decides to do with his starting five, he has to be pleased with the roster that the Lakers’ front office has given him this year. They upgraded at both the point guard and center position, as well as brought back Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who was instrumental in the Lakers success in the playoffs.

The second-year Lakers’ head coach has plenty of options he can roll with on a starting five and while we will likely see a lot of different lineups put out on the court during the course of the season by Frank Vogel, it would simply make sense for him to start his five best players on opening day.

There is no telling if this year’s NBA season will be cut short due to health concerns and player safety, so as a result, these early games mean a lot in the grand scheme of things. Every game matters just a little bit more nowadays because of the fact that you do not know when your final game will be.

As a result, starting Dennis Schroder alongside LeBron James, instead of Schroder coming off the bench is the Lakers best bet for continued success. Although Schroder is more than capable of leading the second-unit on his own off the bench, pairing him with James in the starting five is more beneficial to Anthony Davis.

Instead of having one guy who can find Anthony Davis for lob-finishes and easy points in the paint, now the Lakers have two nifty passers who can cause headaches for opponents. Anthony Davis is the most dominant big man in the NBA right now, next to Giannis Antetokounmpo, and is the Lakers’ best offensive weapon. By giving him two reliable facilitators in the starting lineup this season, not only can this Lakers offense be better than it was last year, ranking 11th in the league in points per game, but they can improve in terms of assists per game as well, as they ranked 10th in assists/game last season.

Whether or not Dennis Schroder starts at point guard for the Lakers in their first game of the season, come time for the 2021 NBA Playoffs, Dennis Schroder will be the starting point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. He is just too good of a player to limit his minutes and bring him off the bench and in the starting lineup, he does more good for the Lakers overall than he would do harm. It makes perfect sense for him to be the starting point guard and next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers have yet another championship contending roster as they look to repeat as champions in the 2020-21 NBA season.
