The Phoenix Suns ended the 2019-20 NBA season on a high note as they went 8-0 in the NBA restart down in Orlando, failing to make the play-in game for the playoffs by a tiebreaker with the Memphis Grizzlies. Everyone wanted to see Devin Booker and the Suns in the playoffs because they not only deserved it after the way they ended their season, but because they were a very exciting and young team to watch.
This offseason, the Suns went out and acquired 10-time NBA All-Star and future Hall-of-Fame point guard, Chris Paul, from the Oklahoma City Thunder. While they did give up both Ricky Rubio and Kelly Oubre Jr, Paul can help lead this team back to the playoffs for the first time since 2010. The biggest thing the Suns needed this offseason was another All-Star level talent to pair up with Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton and they did just that by acquiring Chris Paul.
The Suns also went out and signed Jae Crowder, who revitalized his career after being traded to the Miami Heat late last season. He was a major factor in the Heat’s postseason run that resulted in them losing in the NBA Finals when they were not projected to be there in the first place. Crowder has proven himself to be a solid catch-and-shoot option on the wing and has the strength to play some minutes at power-forward.
Both Chris Paul and Jae Crowder give this Suns team the veteran leadership they have not had over the years and with Devin Booker doing what he does. Now, the Suns have all the makings of a playoff team in the Western Conference. While they may still be a piece away from being a legit contender, expect to see the Suns make a lot of noise this NBA season and pull off a solid amount of surprising victories.
Chris Paul contends everywhere he goes and intends to do the same with the Suns. It was hard to choose between the Hawks and Suns on who had the best additions, but making the playoffs in the Western Conference is no small feat, which is exactly what the Suns are set up to do, making them the biggest winner of the NBA offseason.
