Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Rockets

For the Rockets, this trade would be exactly the kind of haul that would make them consider trading James Harden. Even though he is a once-in-a-generation type of talent, Houston cannot afford to keep him around if he is trying to force his way out of town.

Being able to snag James Wiseman and Andrew Wiggins in this trade makes it super intriguing right off the bat. Wiseman has true star potential and would give the Rockets a long-term big man to build around. Wiggins has never developed into a superstar, but he still averaged 21.8 points per game last season.

Kelly Oubre Jr. is another solid piece that would provide starting caliber depth on the wing. Houston could also flip him after acquiring him if they chose to go that route.

What makes this trade even more of a win for the Rockets would be the inclusion of four first-round picks. Granted, with Harden, Curry, and Thompson teaming up, they would not be super high picks. But, the 2021 first-round pick from the Timberwolves would be a very solid addition.

If the Rockets are going to move Harden, this is the kind of trade package they should be looking for. They would not have to go through a full rebuild, but would have all of the pieces to make another big move or to continually add young talent to their core through the NBA Draft.
