Why the Trade Benefits the San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are coming off a season where they did not make the postseason for the first time in 22 years. This makes them in line for a rebuild around players like Dejounte Murray. DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge could be on the move this offseason.
If DeRozan doesn’t want to stay long-term in San Antonio, it is time to make this trade. The Spurs are headed in a different direction than what they are accustomed to as an organization, so older veteran players do not serve much of a purpose. Hardaway Jr. and Finney-Smith are both younger options that could help the Spurs reach their goal.
It is all about finding players who could work within Gregg Popovich’s system and help get a historic franchise back near the top. Adding some intriguing role players like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dorian Finney-Smith certainly could help the Spurs.
A return involving starting-caliber players and draft capital is something that would benefit the Spurs immediately. This is what they would be able to get from the Dallas Mavericks.
