Why the Trade Benefits the Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks were the seventh seed in the playoffs during the NBA’s restart down in Orlando. They were able to take the Los Angeles Clippers to six games but did not have enough firepower to win the series. This is where a DeMar DeRozan trade would be a huge help.
DeRozan is still one of the best scorers in the mid-range and specifically, he provides a highly efficient impact as a pick-and-roll ball-handler, isolation scorer, in transition, and even on post-ups. His production in those areas last season was intriguing to see and would help the Mavericks.
Simply put, DeRozan is an offensive weapon and one that can draw attention away from Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis within the half-court. He could be the secondary playmaker the Mavericks seek and would give them a star to play with the bench when Doncic is resting.
The Mavericks know how difficult the Western Conference is going to be moving forward. And it is only getting tougher. This trade would give them a big three in hopes of climbing up the standings.
