If there is one team looking to add another star, it is the Dallas Mavericks. They took the next step last NBA season and got into the postseason with Luka Doncic leading the way. Now, they will attempt to build a roster good enough to compete in the very difficult Western Conference.
Dallas has a chance to build their team around Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. The Mavericks made a big splash deal when they acquired Porzingis from the New York Knicks. Now, they could have a chance to make another deal to improve their lineup.
DeMar DeRozan is a player who could find himself playing elsewhere at some point— whether via trade or after departing in free agency next offseason. The Spurs are heading in a different direction in hopes of getting younger and rebuilding.
DeRozan does not fit into the Spurs’ need to rebuild and the Mavericks could look to take advantage. Dallas would just need to be confident that not only adding another star into the mix is the right call, but that a deal for this particular star is the best option.
