Dallas Mavericks Land Secondary Playmaker
There was a clear emphasis from the Dallas Mavericks to better configure the roster around Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis on defense. The addition of Josh Richardson was the greatest display of this as he will be tasked with guarding point guards.
A few of the potential targets for the Mavericks mentioned in trade rumors included Zach LaVine, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Victor Oladipo. Those are not the only names that Dallas would have the option of pursuing in the event they wanted such a talent, though.
As one might expect, there was a substantial decline in the Mavericks’ offensive impact when Doncic was on the sidelines. Adding a legitimate secondary playmaker that can have staggered minutes to help lead the bench unit would make Dallas considerably deeper.
Without substantial NBA Draft assets or high-level young players to work with in a potential trade package, the Mavericks may need to ‘buy-low’ on a trade target. A player like Oladipo could be had for a lower price, but that only would be logical if he ends up being closer to pre-injury form.
