Derrick Rose — Detroit Pistons
It never hurts to add more offensive firepower when gearing up to contend for a championship. For the Los Angeles Lakers, adding Dennis Schroder will undoubtedly help the backcourt rotation be deeper and more dynamic than what it was last season but why stop there?
Schroder wants to be a member of the starting lineup after coming off the bench for the Oklahoma City Thunder. That could certainly work and would create a clean justification for pursuing a trade for Derrick Rose to fill the role of sixth man leading the bench unit.
The production Rose provided the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons over the last two seasons has been genuinely impressive. During this stretch, he has appeared in 101 games with averages of 26.6 minutes, 18.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists.
Adding an explosive guard like Rose to the bench unit that can get to the rim consistently would help the Lakers. It’s important to have multiple players capable of creating such pressure on opposing defenses, especially to maintain a strong offensive output throughout games. That would be scary on a team with Anthony Davis as a screener.
