Derrick White — San Antonio Spurs
When filling out an ideal supporting cast around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, it’s important to find players who can at least knock down jumpers, defend, and having some playmaking ability is an added bonus. Derrick White is solid in each of those areas.
After a solid rookie campaign for the San Antonio Spurs, White followed it up with effective production— producing averages of 24.7 minutes, 11.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.
Last season, White was highly efficient as a pick-and-roll ball-handler and achieved results whether pulling up for a jumper, getting to the rim, feeding the roll man, or making a kick out. He was reliable as a spot-up threat for the Spurs while making positive contributions on defense, too.
One advantage the Lakers would experience by trading for White is that he’s set to become a restricted free agent next NBA offseason. Being able to match offers made to him by other teams would go a long way in keeping him in Los Angeles long-term.
